Hey Naturalista's!!

My loves!

I recently got a nice new shipment of products I wanted to try out. I had a 'gift card' that was given to me as a gift, so I used that to purchase these various products. I ordered the smaller tub of KCCC (kinky curly curling custard), Shine and Define by Oyin Handmade, Blended Beauty Down and Out Styles tub, and finally Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries spritz. I sprayed the Juices and Berries just to see how it smelled and yeah, can we just say.... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!

I also tried out the KCCC!! It is amazing! It gave me definition that I cant get even when my hair is all wet! I will do a review on it in the next few days for you ladies!!!

Essie Nail Polish: Mod Squad & Pansy

I purchased Essie's nail polish in the colors Mod Squad and Pansy. They are both pinks that look great with my skin tone. I painted my toes and nails with the Pansy color last week. It has lasted pretty long and I am satisfied with the life of the paint. I would definitely repurchase a color from Essie. They are pricey, but I managed to get them for free because I had a gift card.

If you are a woman of color with a caramel/ milk chocolate complexion, these colors will look fabulous on you, especially for spring!

When I get home today I will swatch the colors on my nails.

Paul Mitchell: The Conditioner Review

What it claims...
Balances Moisture – Moisturizing conditioners and Hawaiian Awapuhi help balance moisture and prevent dryness
Improves Texture – Wheat-derived conditioners smooth the surface and reduce static
Excellent for Hair and Skin – This unique water-based formula is excellent for both skin and hair.

What it actually does...
I used this leave in conditioner to do my twist out along with some other products [Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream and Trader Joe's Aloe Vera Gel]. I just have to say that I LOVE this leave in conditioner. If you are looking to have soft hair that feels happy and has a slight natural healthy shine to it- this is for you.

When I was using the product I could feel exactly when there was enough in my hair, a very little bit goes a long way. for each twist I used about a 1/3 of a dime size. This stuff is great. Some people don't like it because of the cones and I'd have to say if you're CG (curly girl) or strictly no cones, then don't use this product.

Ingredients...
Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Ceteth 2, Cetrimonium Bromide, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone Bisamino Hydroxypropyl Copolyol/Algae/Aloe Barbadensis/Chamomile, Hedychium Coronarium Extract (White Ginger), PEG 12 Dimethicone, Algae (Seaweed) Extract, Aloe (Aloe Barbadensis) Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Flower Extract, Lawsonia Inermis Extract (Henna), Simmondsia Chinensis Extract (Jojoba), Rosmarinus Officinalis Extract/PEG 12 Dimethicone (Rosemary), Wheat Germ Amidopropyl Ethyldimonium Ethosulfate, Citric Acid, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090) (CI 42090), DMDM Hydrantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance (Parfum) (Parfum), Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexylcinnamal, Limonene

Results...
I actually thought my twist out was going to look horrible but it turned out quite cute and I have gotten second day hair out if it with absolutely NO manipulation not even a shower letting the steam get to it. I'm hoping to stretch 4 or more days out of it. Hopefully I'll have my Juices & Berries spray by Oyin in the mail by then so I can try it out on the style as a refresher.

Price...
The price I paid was $12.00 for a 10.14oz bottle. If you purchase it online, you can get it for cheaper at certain places. The 33oz is between $22.00 and $25.00. It is a little pricey compared to the more inexpensive leave in conditioners and such, but its about the same price as Giovanni's Leave in Conditioner which I don't like nearly as much as this one. I definitely think if I mixed the two together I'd love the combo.

Rating...
All in all I'd rate this product as a 8 on a scale of 10 and if I can get more days out of it, it'll be a 9.

So... this will become a staple product for me. I will use it on twists or braids, I am not sure if I will use it on wash and go's yet. Give it a try, purchase a sample size if you see one and try it out for cheap.

thanx you guys!

Carol's Daughter Loc Butter

Hey Ladies!!
I recently came across some Carol's Daughter (CD) Loc Butter. I actually got it to try with my twists hoping it would help them hold some and add some shine. I ended up doing a flat twist out on dry hair. It turned out okay. My ends then to straighten very easily with out me trying, so some spots just had a straight end to it , however it was fairly cute. My hair had oil in it that visibly came off onto my hands. I don't mind that because by the second day its absorbed but my hair still has a slight healthy sheen with no oil to the touch. It is soft and feels great. I like this product, I don't HAVE to have it, but I do like it, and since I didn't need much it will last me a long time.

I will do another twist or twist out on my hair when it is wet and let you all know the verdict on it.

Please let me know if any of you would like for me to try and review a product, or post on a particular topic!

Spring/Summer Natural Hair Finds...

So I am currently posting on the go. I have recently found that Trader Joe's has some great Organic Aloe Vera Gel. It does not have additives. It acts as a gel in defining curls, but it absorbs right into your hair. You hair will not be crunchy dry or even have a residue on it. It is simply the bomb! I will post pictures when I have a chance to. it is great for a wash and go in the warm weather with curl definition and also adding moisture to your coils. Aloe Vera also helps heal scars and wounds such as one that may be on your scalp. It heals from sunburns and protects, even for hair. It helps retain hair and keep from hair loss.

My second great summer/spring find is shealoe. That is a mixture of shea butter and aloe vera gel. The reason this mixture is great for the summer and spring is because shea butter acts as a sun protectant blocking UVB rays. As well, but being mixed with aloe vera gel, it has all the same benefits from that too.

One more find is braids. Yes sounds weird right?? Well getting parts of your head corn rowed or all of your had is great for the summer. It is easy to care for, leaves you with a 'do' that you don't have to do for a few days to a few weeks, as well as, giving your hair a rest and letting your scalp catch a nice cool breeze. They are great protective styles!

That's all for now lovely naturales!

Hair Shock after Big Chop

I fell off the map.. I'm so sorry you guys! I do however have some stuff to put up so I figured what better day than the 1st to get a new start. I did my BC on February 11th, just before Valentines Day! I have a few pictures of my hair that I will post up soon.

I have an experience I'd like to write about from my BC that I have seen is untouched in the Natural Community. When I did my chop I had transitioned for 9 months. When I cut my hair initially it was in shock, all of my hair looked as if it was blow dried. I did not like it, it had no real texture at all. I had to wait over the course of 1-2 weeks for most of my hair to get a texture. Even still, there is about 10-20% of my hair that is in shock or something. I was extremely frustrating and it still is to style, twists wont stay in and i can't wear my twists out because they look ridiculous with the straight ends hanging off and twist outs look crazy because the ends are straight and poking up as opposed to curling on themselves... its just ridiculous. As the situation changes I will let you all know. Not everyone experiences this.

Anyway

ttys!!!!

Henna for your Hair

Hey Ladies!!

So last night I did a henna treatment on my hair. I did the treatment mostly for color and then for some of the conditioning. I wanted to see what it would do for my hair first hand. I purchased some henna from one of the local Indian grocery stores for like $2.99/100gram box. I made sure to purchase the Mehandi, body art grade henna. I bought to boxes to make sure I had enough for my hair. In the end I really only needed to use approximately a box and a half, but I had already poured all of the two boxes in the bowl.

The ingredients I put into my mix were:
2 boxes of Mehandi Henna
1 egg
8 drops or more of Rosemary essential oil
1/2 cup ACV ( you could also substitute this with lemon)
1 tbsp Castor Oil
1 tbsp Coconut Oil
2 tbsp Olive Oil
***Add water as needed to make it a yogurt consistency.
* add paprika, cinnamon, nutmeg, black tea, black coffee, indigo or other things as needed to alter color of henna's dye. ( I didn't know to do this when I mixed mine).

After putting all the ingredients except for the water into the bowl I mixed them, then began adding the water.

*What I learned AFTER I had already applied my henna is that you can add things like Paprika, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, black tea, black coffee, ground cloves and some select other things to throw the color of your henna. I really wanted a red the be on my hair just because my hair is dark brown so the more red it has, the more red my hair will show up, so more like an auburn/ red brown.

Back to the process...
So after you've mixed your mixture with all the ingredients you have to let it sit for at least 12 hours so the dye can release and you will actually get some color. During this process go back and mix your henna maybe once or twice during the twelve hours to make sure that the dye releases throughout the henna. It should be a brown color when you return if you want to dye red, you will see red 'liquidy' packets in the henna, that is the dye.
Once your dye has been sitting for 12 hours, you can begin to apply it. Some people apply henna to freshly washed hair, some people apply it before washing hair. Do the henna in sections as a person would apply a relaxer, but you can use bigger chunks of hair. You should let the henna sit on your hair for at least 3 hours if not 5 or 6. The longer it is on your hair, the more the color work on your hair. I sat for  4 hours, only because I had work the next day and I started the color at 7:00pm.  I knew henna would take like an hour to get out of my hair and do the conditioning.
After you wash out henna you should DEFINITELY DEEEEEEEEEEEP Condition, regardless of if you shampooed or conditioned before the henna. Henna can be drying, so you must deep condition after it. And when I say deep condition, I mean like put conditioner in and sit for like 30 minutes with saran wrap on your head so your body will heat it up , but sit under the dry with a low setting for like 20 minutes.
I did a deep conditioner with a mayo, coconut milk, banana (DO NOT USE A BANANA- you've been warned),  olive oil, and jojoba oil. I followed that with a Giovanni deep conditioner mixed with HE Hello Hydration and Organix Coconut Milk conditioner. I let that conditioner sit in my hair for roughly 15 minutes with saran wrap on. I rinsed it out then did the organix as my leave in conditioner (which I normally use on any wash).
Henna takes time and effort to wash out, do this on a day when you are free the next day or free all day for that day and start in the morning. The henna made my hair a deep red brown color, it would be noticeable in the direct light, but only barely. I will do it again and use the paprika for a more red color to my hair. I plan to do the treatment maybe in 2 weeks or so. You should give henna 7 days to show its true color, the color continues to oxidize as you wear your hair for a few days, once day 7 has hit, you'll know your true color.

It was a new experience, the henna definitely caused my curls to form a bit more, I didn't notice any loosening, yet, but I noticed it caused more of them to clump together, which I like.

The color isn't overwhelmingly noticeable so I won't post pictures, but in a few weeks when I do my next henna treatment, I will either document it or photograph it.

love, love
